FAQs
How does the Council make endorsements?
Local Unions appoint & elect delegates to the Council. Those delegates convene COPE (Committee On Political Education) meetings where candidates can meet our trades, learn about issues impacting blue collar construction workers, and talk about their candidacy and vision. Depending upon the office you are running for, we may ask that you consider signing our Sustainable Communities Pledge.
Is there a questionnaire or survey required?
The Building & Construction Trades Council is affiliated with the SF Labor Council (SFLC) and we participate in the SFLC candidate questionnaire each election. You’ll need to complete the SFLC questionnaire and answer the land use and jobs portion to be considered for an endorsement.
How do I get started?
It all begins with you. Email Sandra@sfbctc.org and request to meet with our leadership.
Once endorsed, how will the Council help me, or my issue campaign, win?
We work directly with candidates and campaigns to help build majority support in the field. While we have long standing relationships with political consultants, polling & research firms, and campaign law experts, our most powerful tool is educating our members and activating them to volunteer on campaigns that impact working San Franciscans. In short, we are often looked to as the “boots on the ground” that help win the day. We also maintain small contributor political action committees, member to member outreach programs, and support independent expenditure committees during elections.
