Preventing exploitation of construction workers.

Construction work is dangerous and difficult and the industry can be exploitive. Building a skilled & trained workforce is key to turning jobs into careers and rebuilding the middle class in SF.

The San Francisco Building & Construction Trades Council builds power for workers in 27 construction and trade unions.

From apprenticeship preparation to retirement, we represent the hardworking people who build our City.

Changing lives through apprenticeship is what we do.

Our Unions train workers to become highly-skilled construction workers through a debt-free, technologically-advanced education. These earn-as-you-learn programs pay family-sustaining wages and provide health care coverage and retirement benefits from day one. Registered apprenticeship programs provide years of the best construction training in the business, equipping local workers with top-notch trades skills for fulfilling lifelong middle class careers in the building trades.

“This opportunity enabled me to advance along a valuable career path, by providing me the education and skill sets necessary to perform as a journeyman in the field, as well as the confidence needed to become what I am today, and I’m proud of it.”
